How PRP can help regrow your hair
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy for hair loss is a treatment that uses the patient's own blood to stimulate hair growth. Here's how it works:
- Blood Draw and Preparation: A small amount of the patient's blood is drawn, usually from the arm. This blood is then placed in a centrifuge, which spins it rapidly to separate the different components: red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma, and platelets. The result is a concentrated solution of platelets in plasma, known as PRP.
- Activation of Growth Factors: Platelets contain growth factors that are essential for healing and tissue regeneration. When PRP is prepared, these growth factors become concentrated, which is beneficial for stimulating hair follicles.
- Injection into the Scalp: The PRP is injected into the areas of the scalp where hair thinning or loss is occurring. This process typically involves a series of injections across the scalp. The growth factors in PRP are believed to help stimulate the activity of the hair follicles, encouraging new hair growth and strengthening existing hairs.
